So So Sochi

olympics

I’m usually more of a Summer Olympics spectator. That’s probably because all of the winter sports cannot be found anywhere near where I’m from. I watch them anyway though… because it’s part of my American duty to support the red, white, and blue. Come to think of it, that’s pretty much everyone’s reason for watching the Olympics. It’s not like a very high percentage of people in this country watch competitive bobsledding and skating on a regular basis, but slap an American flag on the suits and we’re all for it! WOO! ‘MERICA!

Sochi’s Olympics has had a lot of randomness thus far: from the security questions to the snowflake malfunction to the face of Ashley Wagner. And who would have thought Russia would have to BUY snow? Isn’t that like importing noodles to China?

Many people are wondering why Sochi was picked to host. For example, here is Saturday Night Live’s view courtesy of “Weekend Update.” (Apologies for the slightly crude humor.)

One of my favorite parts of the Olympics is the opening ceremony. I love how the hosting country always goes all out to impress the world (although, the budget is a little ridiculous). I wasn’t as enthusiastic about this year’s opening. I really enjoyed the young girl’s journey through the air, but I’m not a big ballet fan. Ballet is Russia’s jewel though, and if ya got it, flaunt it.
